English Blog 1:Dehumanization

Dehumanization is when one group denies the humanity of another group and makes the victim group seem less than human. One specific example of dehumanization is on p.26 when Gerda and Mr. Pipersberg were walking through the streets and they came across a sigh that said "Dogs and Jews Not Allowed To Enter". This would qualify as dehumanization because they are saying that Jews are lower down and dirtier than dogs which is why they write dogs first and Jews last.Another example is when Gerda was talking about how she knew author was writing with restraint because he knew that many prying eyes would read his letters before they got to his family. This would qualify as dehumanization because the censor people would open up the Jews mail and read it to make sure they weren't writing anything they weren't  supposed to but they didn't read any Germans mail.
